Melting Temperature and Change of Lamellar Thickness with Time for Bulk Polyethylene
نویسنده
چکیده
The melting tempera ture of linear polyethylene has been obtained as a function of the t ime and tempera ture of crystallization. Recrystallization was minimized by a special melting procedure. By interpreting the melting points as characteristic of a given lamellar thickness, i t was found t h a t the thickness of crystals of appreciable age increased linearly with t he logari thm of their t ime of existence. The lowest melting (i.e., thinnest) lamellae in a given specimen may be assumed to have either existed for only a short period of t ime, or to have been impeded in their growth in the chain direction, and they were found to have an es t imated thickness close to t h a t predicted by recent kinetic theories of polymer crystal growth wi th chain folding.

Time-Resolved Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Study of Polyethylene Crystallization from Solution
With time-resolved small-angle neutron scattering (TR-SANS), the crystallization kinetics of polyethylene from deuterated o-xylene solutions upon a temperature jump have been investigated. On the basis of a morphological model of coexisting lamellar stacks and coil chains in solution, experimental data have been quantitatively analyzed to provide structural information, such as the lamellar lon...

In this work, the role of comonomer content of 1-hexene-medium density polyethylene (MDPE) copolymer, synthesized using Phillips catalyst, on thermal behavior parameters such as: crystallization, melting temperature and thermal degradation was investigated in detail. The copolymer was fractionated to homogenous short-chain branching (SCB) fractions by "preparative temperature rising elution fra...
متن کاملThe effect of high-energy electron beam on drawn and undrawn high density polyethylene fibers
HDPE monofilaments were obtained using different extruders and drawn by post-extruder equipments. After solidification, drawn and undrawn monofilaments (draw ratio 7:1) were irradiated with 10 MeV electron beams in air at room temperature at 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 kGy dose ranges to induce a network structure. HDPE crosslinking was studied on the basis of gel content measurements. The fibers w...

متن کاملStrain effects at solid surfaces near the melting point
We investigate the effects of strain on a crystal surface close to the bulk melting temperature Tm, where surface melting usually sets in. Strain lowers the bulk melting point, so that at a fixed temperature below but close to Tm the thickness of the quasi-liquid film is expected to grow with strain, irrespective of sign. In addition, a strain-induced solid surface free energy increase/decrease...
